ORADELL, N.J. -- Alexander 'Al' Caiola, of Oradell, died Nov. 9. He was 96.
He was born Sept. 7, 1920.
He was a renowned musicia,n who had done movie and TV themes, such as "Bonanza," "Hawaii Five-O," "The Magnificent Seven" and many more. In addition, he created and was featured on more than 50 albums and CDs, as well as performed with great artists, such as Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan, Rosemary Clooney, Buddy Holly and Tony Bennett to name a few. He toured with Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme' for many years. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Marines, where he played alongside swing-era bandleader Bob Crosby, performing through much of the Pacific Theater until the band was assigned to active combat units at Iwo Jima. He enjoyed boating and cars.
He is survived by his wife, Rosalie; children, Alexander Caiola Jr., and Sandra and Robert Ayres; grandchildren, Danielle, Natalie, Heather, and Alex; and great-grandchildren, Sandy, Gabby, Blake and Scarlett.
